Description

Multan, 13 January 2023: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressing a press conference in Multan on the occasion of Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, Rana Tahir Shabbir, Rana Iqbal, Rana Shahid ul Hassan and others joining the PPP, said that he welcomes them to the family that is the PPP. The PPP is not just a political party but a political family and its connection with the city of Multan dates back three generations. We will represent Multan, Waseb and the entire country. Our work for the Waseb is before the country, Yousaf Raza Gillani from the Waseb was made the PM of the country, and during the 2008-2013 tenure of the Party, South Punjab got its due share from the PSDP. The PPP will continue its struggle towards giving South Punjab its due share, as during PM Gillani’s tenure a resolution was passed from the Senate in this regard.

Chairman Bilawal said that the PPP vows to combat inflation, poverty and unemployment through its 10-point economic contract with the people. All the PPP workers and office bearers from Multan have to go to every doorstep to convey the Party’s manifesto, Chairman Bilawal instructed. The people of Multan need to be apprised of the PPP’s resolve to double their wages within five years, provide 300 units of electricity free-of-cost, offer free and quality education and establish healthcare institutions such as the NICVD in Multan. Chairman Bilawal said that the PPP aims on expanding the revolutionary internationally-acclaimed Benazir Income Support Programme, while introducing the ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ and ‘Benazir Kissan Card’ for our labourers and farmers to assist them financially. In the same manner, the PPP aims to facilitate the youth not only financially, but also in terms of equipping them with the necessary skills they need to flourish in their professional endeavours through the ‘Benazir Youth Card’. The PPP is the sole political party that is contesting the elections to solve the problems of the people. It is our appeal to the people to stamp the symbol of the arrow so that they can secure their future, Chairman Bilawal said.

Chairman Bilawal said that the PPP is the only party that has been struggling for the people since three generations, and its purpose behind contesting the elections is not linked with evading prison or getting out of jail, but to serve the people. Chairman Bilawal announced that he would be visiting Multan again on 26 January for a public gathering. He invited the people to attend it and announce their support for the new form of politics that the PPP wishes to introduce, with the aim of burying the traditional politics of hate and division.

Responding to questions, Chairman PPP said that the PPP’s sole desire is to be a ‘laadla’ of the people, as they are the source of power as per the teachings of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said that he is leading the only political party in the country that is running its election campaign and reposing absolute trust in the people. The PPP wishes to be triumphant in the elections so that it can implement its manifesto. There is a stark difference between the ideology of the PPP and its counterparts. All the other political parties represent and protect the interests of the elite. Only the PPP has provided relief to the common people and the downtrodden masses of the country. The Party has represented the farmers, labourers, students and journalists of the country and will continue to do so. The PPP is the only party that has the necessary skills to tackle the plethora of issues faced by the people, including the polarisation and hyper-partisanship. Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif have already made it apparent that their priority is to settle the scores they have against each other owing to the personal vendettas they harbour. The PPP has always strived for free and fair elections in the country. The same demand is now being echoed by Imran Khan, which is a first for him, considering that he had come to power through historic rigging. The PPP had made legislative efforts to contribute to the cause of free and transparent elections in order for check and balance to maintain. Had Imran Khan supported the PPP when it aimed to introduce further electoral reforms, we could have made bigger improvements, Chairman Bilawal said. We will strive for the Waseb and its rights. Responding to a question, Chairman PPP said that the PTI has weakened its case itself and it is due to its own shortcomings that it is on the verge of losing its election symbol. The PPP is not from among those who vacate the pitch or can be intimidated. The elections will take place on February 8 as the Chief Justice of Pakistan has said that this is written in stone, hence no one should be under any other impression, Chairman Bilawal said.
